Bald Head Island Homes and Real Estate for Sale

Bald Head Island, NC is an unspoiled island, 4 miles off the North Carolina coast.  It is accessible by a passenger ferry from Southport, NC or by private boat.  No gas-powered passenger vehicles are allowed on the island so golf-carts and bicycles are the popular mode of transport for getting around the island. 

Bald Head Island has thousands of acres of conservation area and is surrounded by the Atlantic Ocean and the Cape Fear River, with over 14 miles of white sandy beaches.  Although it has a laid-back lifestyle there are plenty of activities for family members of all ages.  The Bald Head Island Club is a private club that offers a championship 18-hole golf course, croquet, tennis, fitness center and dining facilities. The oceanfront Shoals Club is a relaxing place to hang out by the pool, enjoy the ocean breeze and fine or casual dining. 

Tucked away in the maritime forest is a small commercial center with a grocery store, and other retail stores offering fresh produce and other daily essentials.  The topography of the island is unique with maritime forests covering the lowlands and uplands, a tidal creek, saltwater marshes, freshwater lagoons and beaches. The Bald Head Island Conservancy was established in 1983 to help preserve and protect the natural habitat of the island.  Bald Head is a recognized area for nesting turtles and the BHIC runs a successful sea turtle protection program.  Bald Head Island is also home to 'Old Baldy' the oldest standing lighthouse in NC with commanding views of the island.
